Happy 2009!

Here’s wishing everyone a belated happy new year and may you achieve all your resolutions!

I just got back from Calgary a few days ago so still taking some time to recover from post-NSLC withdrawal. It was such an awesome conference! I’ll write about it in the week ahead.

Merry Christ-mas!

Here’s wishing everyone a blessed Christmas! Remember to take time to reflect on the reason we’re celebrating Christmas. As I heard someone say recently, its ‘Christ-mas’ and not ‘gift-mas’.

“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”

– Isaiah 9:6

Finally! An update!

So finally i decide to update my blog again after nearly a month. Exams were ok for the most part but my math was an absolute disaster again. Just hope I can pass the course and not have to do it a third time again! If not, I might just switch to computer engineering to skip all this dreadful math.

Now i’m in Toronto at my dad’s place enjoying my rather short 2 week break before school reopens again. Christmas is a rather quiet affair, which is good, as everyone else here seems to be rushing around buying gifts and such. My current favorite Christmas song is “Mary’s Boy Child” by Boney M. Quite an old song but i’ve been hearing it quite often on the radio and have taken quite a liking to it.

I wish my whole family was around to celebrate Christmas together though. My Christmas last year was so much more fun with the whole family. Remember to treasure the times you have with your family as you never know when you won’t be able to be with your family, especially if you’re about to graduate and don’t know where your job will take you.

Heading off to Calgary on the 27th for the National Student Leadership Conference organized by IVCF. Looking forward to that!

This Date in History: 1909 – Birth of the Habs

The Club de Hockey Canadien (that’s what the CH in the logo stands for) was founded by J. Ambrose O’Brien, a businessman, with the help of T.C. Hare. The National Hockey Association was formed in Montreal and was the forerunner of the National Hockey League (NHL) today. Charter members included the Montreal Wanderers, Renfrew Creamery Kings and Montreal Canadiens. 99 years on, they have become the most storied franchise in sports history, winning 24 Stanley Cups in 99 seasons of hockey.

This is a video of the road to winning their last Stanley Cup in 1993.

After a long 15-year drought, will this season, the 100th one, bring a 25th Stanley Cup back to the birthplace of league hockey? Only time will tell…

Go Habs Go!!

Simpsons at a ‘Mapple’ store.

Here’s the Simpsons’ take on Apple – the basic premise being that the Springfield Mall gets a “Mapple” store and everyone buys MyPods, MyPhones, and MyCubes. There’s even an announcement by Steve Mobs!

One Laptop Per Child

“My name is Zimi. I am 7 years old.
I come from a place you’ve never heard of.
A country you cannot pronounce.
A continent you’d rather forget.”

A powerful ad for a good cause. One Laptop Per Child.

Montreal DJs prank call Palin!

Ok, this is probably old news but I just listened to it and found it really hilarious! And the fact that the two comedians are from Montreal make it even more awesome! 😛

Most dramatic end to the F1 season possible!

Just watched the most dramatic Grand Prix of my life, where Lewis Hamilton won the driver’s championship on the last corner, overtaking Timo Glock to take 5th. It was particularly hard to watch Ferrari celebrating the championship before realizing 5 seconds later that they had just lost it. It was really a heck of a roller-coaster ride of emotions throughout the race. And I thought I had seen it all at the Brazilian Grand Prix last year, when it was Kimi who won the championship by 1 point.

Oh well, this season is barely over and I’m already looking forward to the new season! Lot’s of rule changes that can really shake things up but I’m quite sure Ferrari is going to be right up there challenging for the championship again. Forza Ferrari!

And now I have to try to get my head back and focus on my exam tomorrow. 🙁
