Spring forward, fall back

That’s the easiest way to remember how to adjust your clocks for Daylight Saving Time (DST). It just means that in Spring, changeover from standard time to DST is to adjust your clock FORWARD by an hour, while in Fall, you turn it BACK by an hour. It’s my first time experiencing the changeover from standard time to DST. It happens tonight at 2am, when clocks will be adjusted forward to 3am, so technically, the day will have 23 hours and i’ll be 1 hour short of sleep =( (Nvm, i’ll gain it back in Fall!)

So now, the time difference between Singapore and Montreal is cut from 13 hours to 12 hours. Not like it makes much of a difference if the time difference is already so large…haha…

Dead blog…

I think my blog kind of died…haha…

Anyway, been busy recently studying for exams and planning the courses I have to take for summer and next year…

On a sidenote, my mail box (physical one that is) has a jammed keyhole. And when i tried to unjam the keyhole by sticking in my key as hard as i could, i bent the key and managed to break it! Great…

CDs!

I regret not bringing at least some of my CD collection over here. Now i’m starting to miss listening to some of the music i have back at home. I suddenly feel like listening to CO music yesterday but i realised i only have a rather pathetic collection of CO music with me over here. And chinese songs! I can’t just turn on the radio and see wat’s playing on it anymore…no chinese stations! haha…Probably will get them the next time i go back.

Something meaningful

“It is one of the precious things about the Christian faith that our continuance in eternal life depends not on our feeble hold on Christ, but on his firm grip on us.”

Ice hockey!

Went to watch my first ever ice hockey match on Sat. It was McGill vs Ottawa. Sadly, in the first ever match i watched, McGill lost. Luckily the results didn’t matter as McGill has already qualified for the playoffs. The scoreline of 5-2 didn’t truly reflect how close the game was. It was actually 3-2 until the last min of the game, when McGill was desperate to score the equalizer and force extra time so they took off their goalie and put on a 6th player. however, that move didn’t pay off and within a min, two more goals were scored by Ottawa.

generally though, it was a rather enjoyable first hockey game. i still wasn’t sure of the rules yet though, so half the time i didn’t know why a penalty was being given. the game is also comparatively more violent then what i’m used to seeing in sports. it seems to be really easy to get personal in the game, with quite a few mini-fights breaking out. however, the referees quickly took control of the situations.

i took some photos of the match so i’ll probably be uploading some photos on my photo blog soon…stay tuned!

Singaporeans!

It’s been quite a hectic week but i’m more or less settled down now. trying to adjust to my newly scrambled up timetable. my advisor made a mistake and so the day before the add/drop deadline for courses, i was told i had to drop two of the courses i was taking and take two courses that i thought i was exempted for. oh well, initially i felt quite miffed that they had messed up my nicely planned schedule and now i have 3 days where i have 4 consecutive lessons or more. but now i’m starting to accept it and take it in stride.

anyway last week on sat, i went for “laksa night” organised by the Malaysian And Singaporean Student Association (MASSA). met quite a few singaporeans there. however, most of the singaporean population here consists of exchange students. it really felt at home though, to sit down and start spewing singlish to people, after more then a month of speaking “proper” english.

i’m getting along quite well with a bunch of roughly 10 of them. not all of them are from mcgill though, about 3 of them are from neighbouring Concordia University. And what a small world it is! one of the exchange students happen to be from hwa chong too! what’s more, she’s in my year and from s7 as well. S72 to be specific.

i’ve also been extremely grateful that within this group, a majority of them are christians so we’ve been going to church together the past 2 weekends. it doesnt feel as weird going to a new church in a group rather then alone, as i have been doing the week prior. we’ve also gone for the McGill Christian Fellowship and the International Students Bible Study group together.

in all these, i have truly seen God working and seen how He has planned everything for me. the first two weeks of feeling lonely has really made me appreciate how God is helping me through it all and providing such a good bunch of Christians to be with me. i have been truly overwhelmed and amazed. i get such a powerful feeling of gratitude when i think about it and it really makes me feel undeserving of it all. i thank God everyday for all that i have been blessed with.
